GCTC Smart Regions Collaborative Announces Smart Regions Innovation, Recovery, & Resilience Virtual Workshop
Washington, DC – When disasters strike, communities everywhere are put to the test, requiring an enormous amount of effort from local and regional leaders. In the aftermath, those leaders need to shift focus from short-term response to long-term recovery. Communities then look to utilize data and smart innovations to ensure they remain resilient for the next public safety challenge.
This is the focus of the upcoming Smart Regions Innovation, Recovery, and Resilience Virtual Workshop on October 29-30, 2020, hosted by the Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC) Smart Regions Collaborative, the National Telecommunications & Information Administration, the National Association of Regional Councils, and US Ignite and sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. GCTC Smart Regions Collaborative promotes smart city and community projects that cross jurisdictional boundaries to create efficiencies, improve sustainability, and increase quality of life for all residents.
Participants are invited to join discussions covering best practices in smart regions investments and partnerships, navigating equity issues during a disaster, regional data sharing, unique issues facing rural areas, the education and health response to disasters, and a look at a more resilient future that smart regions projects can help us achieve. Additionally, regional panels highlighting teams that are active within the Smart Regions Collaborative will discuss experiences with their own efforts and how innovative thinking has helped communities become more resilient. To attend the Smart Regions Innovation, Recovery, and Resilience Virtual Workshop on October 29-30, 2020, register here. Agenda details can be found on the virtual workshop webpage here.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________About the GCTC Smart Regions Collaborative: The GCTC Smart Regions Collaborative elevates smart cities and communities conversations to the regional level – promoting projects that cross jurisdictional boundaries to create efficiencies, improve sustainability, and increase quality of life for all residents. It encourages the formation of teams that span across jurisdictions, sectors, and disciplines to find ways to work together and launch, manage, or grow projects that will address issues that impact an entire region. Whether it is to tackle issues concerning economic development, resiliency, sustainability, health, public safety, utilities, connectivity, agriculture, or mobility, this initiative will seek to highlight the societal and financial benefits of working across city and county lines. A result of this collaborative will be a blueprint that empowers local and regional leaders through benefits analyses, case studies, best practices, and action guides to build their own smart region strategies.
